Ich musste gerade doch schon etwas hart lachen, auch wenn es eigentlich traurig ist.
Nachdem ich dem Support von Audible eine Mail geschrieben hatte, um herauszufinden, ob denn in naher Zukunft eine Linux oder zumindest Web-Version des Players geplant ist, kam gerade die Antwort. Die Antwort selbst ist so wahnsinnig zusammengesetzt aus Textbausteinen und Teilen meiner Anfrage, dass die das auch komplett automatisch erstellen koennten(wenn sie das nicht laengst tun).
Hier nun mal der Text auf meine Anfrage, ob es einen Linux-Client geben wird und wann der Windows-Client mal so erneuert wird, dass er auch nutzbar ist - ich habe mir schlussendlich iTunes installiert, weil es das propriaetere Format momentan als einziges halbwegs abspielen kann. Der Audible-Player ist unter Windows 8 praktisch unbenutzbar: er haengt oefter mal, das User Interface sieht aus wie zu Windows-98-Zeiten und Benutzerfreundlichkeit ist auch anders.
Aber gut, hier einfach mal die ungekuerzte Antwort des Audible Customer Supports, dessen Name, wie ich finde, doch schon etwas ironisch ist:

I understand you know if there is any plans on a Linux or web client also when will the Windows client be fixed as it's Windows 98 graphics don't match your Windows 8 and the overall use ability is just poor. I truly apologize for any inconvenience this matter may have cause you and will do my best to resolve this issue as expeditiously as possible.
We are still working with the open-source developers of Linux and to see if we can make our file format compatible with their operating system. If that happens, we do expect to expand our support to Linux computers in the future. We would love to make our content available to Linux users as soon as possible, as we often hear from Linux fans regarding Audible playback.
Also as our customers provide us with helpful information regarding their Audible experiences, we can work towards creating a more intuitive and customer-friendly software experience. Mein persoenlicher Favorit ist ja "We are still working with the open-source developers of Linux and to see if we can make our file format compatible with their operating system."
Wer ein Bisschen Zeit hat, kann ja auch eine Mail an den Audible-Support schreiben. Ihr braucht dafuer nicht mal einen Account. Einfach einen Text schreiben, der nach einer Linux-Version und einer aktualisierten Version des Windows-Clients fragt. Hier mal meine Roh-Daten der Anfrage:
